What do you do when...
your toddler is climbing the check out counter at Michael's when you are trying to do a return with people in line behind you? You tell him "no" several times in a nice calm mommy voice. After the fifth or sixth time, you say "no" a bit more firmly. Then, all of a sudden you child turns around and swings at you in anger. Hmmm... what do you do?

Hello. This post IS very likable, even though having your kid hit you is not. Your blog (and life with a toddler) is very interesting.
:P
So sorry to hear you had a rough day at the store...it sounds like me about a week ago! It is so hard when you feel like you have no authority in public places!!
They are definitely hitting a stage where they're pushing the boundaries, huh? Juli's done similar things a couple times - it's like she knows when it would be the hardest for me to address. The only thing I've done is be willing to leave the return and "take it outside", and then come back when it is re-established who's in control :) It's so the stage. Keep being the parent and it will pass. Then we'll be on to some new challenges!
I think what Sarah said sounds right on. The problem is that is it so much easier said than done (no offense intended!!) It is truly difficult to leave a store, deal with the issue and then come back in. I know because I have gone through it.
But, I bet you'd only have to do it once! :) Perhaps a simple reminder would be enough if Samuel were to ever start to get to that place again.
This is a tough one Michelle!
